There is always a weird rush that we go through in the morning.
Whether it is because you have kids or you have to go to work, mornings are often the busiest part of the day. And, if you get up on the wrong side of the bed or just feel ‘off’ in the morning, you may feel the after-effects of this throughout your day.
These habits will help you start your day off on the right track. Remember this: Your daily morning routine matters a lot! Here are 7 morning mindfulness habits for a productive day.
1. Stay away from electronic devices
You may have a tendency to be extra attached to your mobile phones in the morning. After staying away from it the entire night, there’s an inherent urge to check your messages and email.
Using your phone in the morning, however, might cause you a lot of stress and ruin your good mood. And, staying away from your phone for an hour after waking up allows you to gather your thoughts and plan your day.
Why not make a morning technology detox part of your morning routine?
Instead of checking your phone immediately upon waking up, you can focus on things like taking a walk or enjoying a nice cup of coffee.
2. Think about working out or meditating
When you work out in the morning, this can be refreshing and invigorating.
Your exercise time is a way to work on improving your health without any distractions.
Exercising is also considered one of the best morning habits as it makes you feel productive. Yet, a lot of people tend to put off physical activity in the morning due to a lack of time.
Meditation, on the other hand, helps you keep your emotions in check so you can be mentally healthy.
If you have never meditated before, you can find loads of tutorials online that can help you get started. You can also check out this primer on ‘How to Meditate’. In addition, Pretzel Kids also has fantastic resources on meditation, including ‘how to fit meditation into your life!’
3. Prioritize Your Self-Care
Self-care can become an important part of your daily routine, and oftentimes fitting it in during the evening is easier – especially if you have no time for self-care in the morning! A productive morning routine can already be packed and may include showering, dressing up, eating breakfast, and getting the kids ready for school.
So with your morning habits already in place, make sure you carve out time for self-care sometime during your day. Perhaps this means taking a walk outside, practicing yoga, or even meditating for five minutes after dinner!
4. Don’t even think about skipping breakfast in the morning
Another thing that tops our best morning habits list is eating breakfast.
Sadly, many people think eating breakfast is a waste of time.
In reality, breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day, and you need to eat correctly in the morning. Eating breakfast will help give your fuel for your entire day, and you’ll be less likely to grab for unhealthy snacks.
So, even if you have a busy morning, take ten minutes to sit down and eat something nutritious.
5. Morning Mindfulness: plan your tasks for the day
The best morning routine includes this: Every morning, close your eyes and think about everything you have to do that day.
This enables you to get into the mindset of working and completing tasks. You can think that a to-do list is not going to be useful, but it might be just the thing that changes the way you approach your day!
And, cut yourself some slack….You can forego some tasks if you have a ton of work that day. Instead, grab a notebook and write those tasks down. A list will make it easier to track your progress and avoid the frustration of forgetting something important in the future. Plus, crossing off a task from your list will make you feel more productive that day.
In fact, we love using calendars to track tasks. We even have a calendar activity printable set for kids – to keep the whole family organized. 👉Check it out here!
6. Connect with your family
Your family may all be home in the morning, but that doesn’t mean you spend quality time together. The reason behind this is simple – we are way too engrossed in getting everything done that we fail to have meaningful conversations.
Now, talking to your kids and partner is easy to include in your morning routine and there are multiple ways to do this. You can talk to your spouse and kids as you eat breakfast, or you can help them get ready for work or school.
The outside world is stressful, so make sure to communicate with your loved ones – and gather up positive energy for your day.
7. Be grateful
You might have a lot of difficulties in life but there must be things that you feel grateful for.
Thinking about these things once a day is gratifying and helps you see things in a positive light. We believe that gratitude is an essential part of a morning routine.
To start, think about three or four things or people that you are grateful to have in your life. This will hardly take five minutes yet this will make a powerful impact on your morning routine. To learn more, here are 6 ways to practice gratitude.
