Pretzel Kids Yoga Teacher Feature: Meet Rebecca Maderios

By Risheek Priyadarshi, Pretzel Kids content writer

Let’s welcome Rebecca Maderios, our May 2022 Pretzel Kids yoga teacher!

Strength comes in many shapes, sizes, and even places. Many people feel strongest when lifting heavy weights in the gym. However, here at Pretzel Kids, we know that yoga can give you strength; a fact that our Pretzel Kids yoga teacher, Rebecca Maderios, can definitely agree with.

Rebecca is from Berkley, Massachusetts. She’s a mother to four children, a grandmother to two, and has been married for 28 years to her high school sweetheart! She also has two horses, three dogs, and two cats.

Rebecca started in 2018 when she wanted to help heal her legs and feet, and strengthen her whole body. Yoga allowed her to heal and progress at her own pace.

“My yoga journey began with repairing both my legs and feet in 2018,” says Rebecca.

Meet Rebecca Maderios

“After nine months of physical therapy and lots of consideration, I chose Yoga to help my legs and feet get strong again. I was able to do it at home and at my own pace. Yoga was a life changing choice for me. I have found a wonderful spot on my mat where my body and my heart are happy!”

Along with being a kids yoga teacher she has been an EMT, volunteer firefighter, and phlebotomist; however, it doesn’t end there! Rebecca also volunteered and worked at local schools and runs a farm in which she and her family take care of horses, cows, and grow their own vegetables!

Tell Us About Your Yoga Journey and Working on Your Farm!

Pretzel Kids: Hello Rebecca! It’s wonderful to have you here at Pretzel Kids. Can you start us off by telling us about yourself?

Rebecca: I have been married for 28 years to my high school sweetheart and we have four kids and their spouses. I am also a Meemaw to Scarlett and JJ. I love the outside in any weather (we have a small farm), so there are always chores to do! I enjoy our horses Missy and Sky; dogs Callie, Koda, and Belle; and cats Reese and Thor!! I have been an EMT, volunteer firefighter, and phlebotomist and still love old trucks and Jeeps! I also love playing outside, gardening, trips to Maine, the water, cooking and baking with my family and reading. I have to say meditation and yoga are my favorite activities!

Pretzel Kids: Wow, that sounds like a lot! Is there anything else you would like to highlight?

Rebecca: I have been a stay at home mom for most of the last 28 years. My granddaughter is three and my grandson is a newborn baby. I volunteered or worked in the local schools and loved it. I enjoy teaching my kids, my friends’ kids, or anyone who comes to our Funny Farm. We learn about horses, cows and growing your own veggies. I hope to pass on my love of being outside. We raised our own beef for most of our kids’ lives. I have been practicing yoga and meditation (self-taught) for almost four years.

Pretzel Kids: You have clearly accomplished so much in your life! Since you brought up farming, can you share a fun fact about that?

Rebecca: Absolutely! I have helped bring at least a dozen calves into the farm world and can help deliver cows, goats, sheep and puppies!

Pretzel Kids: That is actually incredible! It is a wonder how you have any spare time leftover. Is there anything you like to do when you’re not keeping up with the rest of your life?

Rebecca: I actually love to meditate outside, especially because of my love for the outdoors.

Pretzel Kids: Speaking of meditation, what brought you into yoga? How has your journey been so far?

Yoga for Physical Health

Rebecca: My yoga journey began with repairing both my legs and feet in 2018. After nine months of physical therapy, I was able to do yoga at home and at my own pace.

Pretzel Kids: That is wonderful to hear! We love that yoga has been such an important aspect of your healing. Let’s shift over to teaching yoga. What is your favorite part of teaching yoga to kids?

Rebecca: I love how quickly kids learn! They pick up some of the fundamentals very fast and it’s a joy to teach something that benefits them.

Pretzel Kids: We 100% agree with that!. What do you feel are the most beneficial aspects of the Pretzel Kids Teacher Association membership and licensing program?

Rebecca: I think having a place to refer to and communicate with others is the most beneficial. Going about this all by yourself is significantly harder compared to after joining the Pretzel Kids team!

Pretzel Kids: Thank you for your kind words. We appreciate your support. Do you feel that being part of Pretzel Kids gives you more visibility and helps you fill your classes?

Rebecca: Certainly! I hope that it will put my name out there and I’ll be able to teach lots of kids!

Pretzel Kids: How did you hear about Pretzel Kids? Would you recommend the program to friends, moms, childcare providers, and yoga teachers?

Rebecca: I heard about the Pretzel Kids program online. Yes, I would recommend it! The course was easy to follow and included tons of helpful and easy-to-digest information.

Pretzel Kids: Where are you from originally and how did that inform your decision to become a kids yoga teacher?

Rebecca: I live in Massachusetts. I would love to offer yoga classes for children at local schools, dance studios or gyms. I used to work and volunteer in local schools – combine that with learning yoga and here we are!

Pretzel Kids: How do you hope to make a positive impact with Pretzel Kids?

Rebecca: I believe my mat allows me to be strong just by showing up for myself. I hope to teach kids that just by showing up, I am already proud of them.

Pretzel Kids: What’s your favorite Pretzel Kids pose?

Rebecca: Horse!

Pretzel Kids: Well, that’s obvious!?. What’s your favorite Pretzel Kids game? What’s your favorite Pretzel Kids theme?

Rebecca: My favorite game is Freeze. And, this may come as a surprise?, but the farm theme is my favorite!

Pretzel Kids: Last but certainly not least, what is your favorite food?

Rebecca: I am a sucker for whipped cream.

Pretzel Kids: Well, Rebecca, it has been such a fun time interviewing you. It’s wonderful to have you on board here at Pretzel Kids!

Rebecca: Thank you! I’m so glad to be here and part of the Pretzel Kids team.
