Pretzel Kids Yoga Teacher Feature: Meet Alaina!

Alaina Stockhausen Pretzel Kids yoga teacher

Meet Alaina Stockhausen, our August 2019 featured Pretzel Kids yoga teacher!

Alaina is a licensed physical therapist assistant, an ACE certified personal trainer/kids fitness specialist, and a Pretzel Kids yoga teacher! Along with her business partner, she runs a mobile kids yoga business in Pittsburgh, Pa., called Peace Kids Pgh.

Alaina believes yoga is important to kids of all ages, especially since she herself was introduced to fitness, yoga and meditation through her own mom, who has been teaching yoga for 20 years! She lives in Mt. Lebanon, Pa. with her husband, children Cole and Lane, and french bulldog named Blue.  We were excited to talk to Alaina about her journey with Pretzel Kids yoga.

Here’s what she had to say:

Pretzel Kids: Tell us a bit more about you.

Alaina: I am a mom to Lane, age 6, and Cole age 9. I moved to Colorado in my early twenties to get my degree in physical therapy but found my passion is for fitness and yoga – and working with kids. I moved back to Pittsburgh with my now husband in 2006.

Pretzel Kids: What do you like to do in your spare time?

Alaina: I love anything that has to do with the outdoors. Hiking, fishing, camping, snowshoeing, paddleboarding and kayaking are my favorite things to do. I do miss those Colorado mountains!

Pretzel Kids: When it comes to becoming a kids yoga teacher, we know that there are many training options out there. What made you decide to enroll in the Pretzel Kids Yoga Teacher Certification course?

Alaina: In making my decision to become a kids yoga instructor, I did a lot of research and I came across Pretzel Kids yoga. I read about Robyn’s extensive experience and this gained my confidence in her program.

Pretzel Kids: What did you like best about the Pretzel Kids yoga training program?

Alaina: I love how this program let me study at my own pace but also gave me all the tools I needed to become a confident certified kids yoga instructor. Pretzel Kids yoga prepared me to design lesson plans, create ideas for themed classes, and gave me tips for how to grow my kids yoga business successfully.

Pretzel Kids: Can you tell us more about your kids yoga business?

Alaina: My company is called Peace Kids Pgh. With my business partner Jessica Johns, we currently teach kids yoga as a mobile instructor in preschools, elementary school, rec centers and private appointments. We also have studio space that we sublet from a children’s creative art studio.

Our goal is to introduce kids to yoga so that they can build confidence, flexibility, and strength. We also want to help kids manage emotions and give them tools to cope with stress and anxiety.

Pretzel Kids: How else has Pretzel Kids helped you with your own kids yoga business?

Alaina: Pretzel Kids has made it simple to develop lesson plans and offer ideas for themes for classes. There is an extensive pose bank that is provided and themes with examples of poses listed and how the class should flow. This has helped me tremendously in coming up with my own themes and classes.

Pretzel Kids: Would you recommend the Pretzel Kids Yoga Teacher Training?

Alaina: I would recommend this course to anyone who is looking to help children manage stress, improve strength/balance and become more aware of their emotions. This course is great for school teachers, parents, babysitters, nannys and yoga/fitness instructors. It’s also great for anyone looking to grow a kids yoga business.

Pretzel Kids: What’s your favorite Pretzel Kids yoga pose?

Alaina: My favorite pose is rocket pose because the kids love it! Yoga can be calm but it also can be fun for kids.

Pretzel Kids: What’s your favorite Pretzel Kids yoga game?

Alaina: My favorite Pretzel Kids game is freeze dance using a yoga pose for the theme of the day. I think my favorite theme so far is outer space. The kids really enjoy pretending to be astronauts on the moon – jumping over craters and taking off in rocketships.

Pretzel Kids: What’s your favorite food?

Alaina: My favorite food is Thai noodle soup!
